The national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening will begin at San Francisco's Curran Theatre in Fall 2008. No casting has been announced, nor have any other tour destinations.
The show, which debuted Off-Broadway at the Atlantic Theater Company, is based on Frank Wedekind's 1891 play about a group of German adolescents coming to terms with their sexuality. It just won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Director for Michael Mayer, Best Score for Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, Best Book of a Musical for Sater, Best Orchestrations for Sheik, and Best Choreography for Bill T. Jones.
